Comedones

Comedones are the most common type of acne and develop when a pore becomes clogged by oil, grime and dead skin cells. They come in the form of closed comedones (whiteheads) or open comedones (blackheads)

Inflammatory Acne

Comedonal acne can deteriorate to inflammatory acne when bacteria gets trapped within blocked pores. As the bacteria multiply, the comedones get inflamed, resulting in pus-filled bumps.

Nodulocystic Acne

Nodulocystic acne is a severe form of acne characterized by deep, inflamed nodules and cysts that can be painful and lead to scarring. It develops within the skin tissue and appears as firm, reddish bumps on the surface.

Why Astute?

Personalised solutions for results that matters.

What is Active Acne?

Acne occurs when the oil and sweat glands become inflamed, commonly affecting the face, shoulders, chest, and back. A key contributor is the P. acnes bacteria, which naturally lives on the skin but can trigger breakouts under certain conditions.

Several factors can make acne worse, including hormonal imbalances, certain medications, high humidity, stress, and lack of sleep. Research also suggests that dairy and sugar intake may impact acne control. While acne often improves with age, it can appear in different forms, each requiring a tailored approach to treat.

What is Our Acne Programme?

Astute Medical offers a comprehensive 6 month programme designed to treat acne through a combination of treatments and skincare solutions.

This programme includes a series of Long Pulsed and Pico Laser treatments, Chemical peels, HydraFacial sessions, LED Blue Light therapy, and a curated selection of prescription topical creams and home care products, such as cleansers, sunblock, and moisturizers.

Tailored to the severity and type of acne, our doctors develop a personalized treatment plan to ensure that each session contributes to a gradual and noticeable improvement in skin clarity.

Acne Treatments

HydraFacial

Hydrafacial is a medical-grade treatment that uses patened technology and a theree-part regime to exfoliate the skin, unclog pores and remove excess oil and dirt in the process. At the same time, serums containing ingredients like salicylic acid are infused, effectively combating acne.

Getting a HydraFacial before laser treatment for acne concerns can help to clear pores by removing dead skin and impurities, which enhances the effectiveness of the treatment. The treatment helps to deeply hydrate and reduce redness and inflammation, thus helps the skin to tolerate the laser's heat and minimise irritation.

By improving skin texture and overall health, HydraFacial creates a smooth, balanced base that boosts the results of laser acne and scar treatments.

Long Pulse Laser

Currently offered under Astute's Fusion Laser programme.

Long Pulsed Laser is a type of laser treatment that emits energy in longer pulse durations to penetrate deeper into the skin, targeting acne and related concerns.

It can help to reduce sebum production, shrink overactive oil glands to decrease excess oil that contributes to breakouts. It also destroys P. acnes bacteria, which are involved in acne formation, and helps minimize inflammation, calming redness and swelling in active acne.

Additionally, it stimulates collagen production, promoting skin healing and improving the appearance of acne scars over time.

Topical & Oral Medication

Topical creams and oral medication are often complemented with existing acne treatments for enhanced results. They can be prescribed by our doctors when necessary.

Clindoxyl combines an antibiotic with an antibacterial agent to reduce inflammation and combat acne-causing bacteria.

Retancyl, a topical retinoid, promotes skin cell turnover to prevent clogged pores and improve overall skin texture.

Doxycycline, an oral antibiotic, helps control bacterial overgrowth and inflammation, making it suitable for moderate to severe cases.

For severe or persistent acne, Acnotin (isotretinoin) is a highly effective treatment that significantly reduces oil production and prevents new breakouts.

How Does Acne Treatments Work?

Acne treatments works by addressing the underlying causes of breakouts, from excess oil production to clogged pores and bacteria buildup.

Treatments such as lasers, topical medications and other therapies can help reduce inflammation, clear blockages and promote healthier skin. Each approach targets specific concerns to not only treat current acne, but also prevent future flare-ups.

How will I Know Which Treatments are best for me?

Acne treatment starts with topical solutions like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or retinoids, which help reduce inflammation, clear pores, and prevent breakouts.

For more persistent acne, treatments like Pico Laser or Fusion Laser target deeper layers of skin to reduce inflammation, fight bacteria, and promote healing. Medical-grade facials are also effective for exfoliating and unclogging pores, helping to prevent future breakouts.

A personalized treatment plan can help achieve clearer, healthier skin.
