Rolling Scars

Rolling scars are shallow, wide depressions with sloping edges that create a wavy or uneven texture on the skin. They form when fibrous bands pull the skin downward, often as a result of long-term inflammatory acne.

Boxcar Scars

Boxcar scars are broad, shallow to moderately deep depressions with well-defined edges, often caused by inflammatory acne. They give the skin a pitted or uneven appearance and typically form when collagen is destroyed during the healing process.

Ice Pick Scars

Ice pick scars are deep, narrow scars that extend into the skin, resembling small, punctured holes. They are a common type of acne scar caused by severe breakouts that destroy skin tissue.

Why Astute?

Personalised solutions for results that matters.

What Are Acne Scars?

Acne scars occur as a result of a full thickness injury to the skin from inflammatory acne, most notably nodulocystic acne. The injury involves the dermis layer of the skin, resulting in irregularities on the surface of the skin.

Acne scars are different from post-inflammatory pigmentation, acne marks or blemishes which are temporary and usually resolve with time on their own. Scars are, by definition, permanent and irreversible. However, there are methods to make them less obvious.

What is Our Acne Scars Programme?

Acne scars can vary significantly in type and severity, requiring a tailored approach for effective treatment. As many individuals have a range of acne scars, a treatment program encompassing various treatment modalities will be customized to address the various scars types.

These treatment modalities have a regeneration and healing time, and treatment intervals need to be spaced out appropriately to minimize any adverse events.

For a comprehensive treatment, it is important that individuals are able to commit to a program stretching up to 12 months in order to achieve better results.

Acne Scars Treatments

Sylfirm X

Ideal for: further improvement of the appearance of scars

Sylfirm X treatment is designed to remodel both epidermal and dermal collagen.

This microneedling radiofrequency (RF) device works by combining the benefits of microneedling with RF heat, creating controlled inflammation that triggers the body’s natural wound-healing process and stimulates new collagen production. With adjustable microneedles ranging from 0.3mm to 4.0mm in depth, Sylfirm X can effectively address scars of varying thicknesses.

Recommended sessions and interval:

4 or more sessions are typically recommended with one month intervals.

Rejuran S

Ideal for: individuals who are comfortable with injectables

Rejuran S is an injectable skinbooster that contains polynucleotides (PN), which is derived from Salmon DNA. This treatment stimulates skin rejuvenation and collagen synthesis.

The product is injected with microneedles into the dermis just under a scar, helping to lift and fill up sunken scars. Together with the collagen synthesis, there will be improvement of skin texture.

Recommended sessions and interval:

3-4 treatments are recommended, with one month intervals.

CO2 Laser

Ideal for: rolling scars, boxcar scars

Fractional lasers such as fractional CO2 work by targeting both the epidermis and dermis.

This is a non-invasive treatment that uses a laser device to deliver a laser beam fractionated into microthermal treatment zones (MTZs), which are tiny but deep columns of treatment into the skin. New collagen is stimulated and formed in these MTZs and helps in improving skin texture.

Recommended sessions and interval:

4-6 sessions of fractional resurfacing are required, with one month intervals.
