What is Subcision?
Subcision is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed by our doctors that involves using a specialised needle to seperate the scar tissue that is pulling down, or tethered, to the underlying skin under your scar.
This process lifts the depressed scar and promotes collagen production when the fibrotic strands are released, thus resulting in a smoother appearance.

Why Subcision and Fillers?
During subcision, the release of fibrotic tissues leaves a pocket under the skin where blood can accumulate which prevents the short-term reattachment of scars.
However, there is still a 50% chance that scar tissues that may "re-form" after a subcision for acne scars treatment.
To prevent scar tissues from collapsing and reattaching to the underlying skin after subcision, it is recommended that regenerative treatment such as fillers can help to support the healing process.
In addition, it also helps to stimulate collagen production, improve volume loss and achieve and overall smoother appearance.

What types of fillers?
Some of the regenerative treatments available at Astute include Radiesse (Calcium Hydroxyapatite), Rejuran Healer (PDRN) and Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers such as Restylane.
Hyaluronic Acid fillers are especially useful as they continue to draw water molecules to the tissues to further push up the depressed acne scar and plump the skin, and can typically last up to 18 months before it dissolves.
Rejuran S (Scar) is also commonly suggested to patients as it further support collagen remodeling by creating a three-dimensional scaffolding to prevent scar tissues from re-tethering.
Fillers are always a great supplementary treatment to subbcision and laser treatments to further improve scars at a cellular level.
